Three Things Thursday: The Book Edition

Truth be told Three Things Thursday is my go to when I don’t have a post ready for Monday morning.  But it works and having this little fall back is good for my sanity.  This week’s Three Things Thursday is all about BOOKS!!!

I joined a book club!

One of my 100 dreams is to start or be in a book club.  I’ve half-ass put this dream out there in the past, but nothing ever really came of it.  Until now!  My dear friend Kari has taken pity on my need to sip wine and talk about books.  I am now a member of her book club.  Seriously I have access to the secret Facebook page and everything!  I am both thrilled and terrified to offer up my thoughts and opinions in a group of women.

Where I get my book recommendations.

If you are a book lover and you haven’t heard of Modern Mrs. Darcy, then I suggest you crawl out from under your rock and explore all of her resources.  She has a blog and a summer reading list and a podcast all devoted to books and reading.  My favorite thing from Anne Bogel (that’s Modern Mrs. Darcy’s real name) is her daily list of great kindle deals.  It is the bomb diggity!  Every day there is a new list of really good books that are on sale for like cheap.  I’m talking most of them are 2.99 and under.  A couple of my favorites have been Gut by Giulia Enders and Love Warrior By Glennon Melton Doyle.  I have a whole bunch of titles on my to read list because of these deals. Go check it out!

What I'm reading right now.

Right now I am reading 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do.  I am seriously learning so much from this book!  I am on thing number 5 or 6 and I am loving it.  The author Amy Morin, a psychotherapist, has had more than her fair share of tragic life events is totally qualified to write about mental strength.  Her advice and expertise are easy to swallow.  There is not a boring bone in her writing so far.  The chapters are laid out with stories, short information paragraphs and bullet point lists.  The topics are simple but profound and truly life changing.   I have had the opportunity to talk about the various strategies in this book with a handful of other people and they have all had light bulb moments during our conversations.

Three questions for you.

Are you in a book club?

Where do you get your reading recommendations?

What are you reading right now?

Love Modern Mrs. Darcy and all her great info… and love you my friend! I am so happy and grateful that you’re joining our little group – I know you’ll be a valuable voice. Book Club (in my opinion), is more than just a place to share opinions about our current reads… it’s a safe place to voice our fears, passions and thoughts, as we get the chance to look at life through someone else’s eyes. As for the book you’re reading… I’m adding it to my list right now.
