The January 2016 Edition

Reading… This month I have finished Love Does by Bob Goff and Scary Close
by Donald Miller.  Right now I am in the middle of Rising Strong by Brene Brown, The Art of Non-Conformity
by Chris Guillebeau, and The Goldfinch (yes a little fiction!  Wahoo!) by Donna Tartt

Watching… I finished off all of the seasons of Pretty Little Liars on Netflix and since then the only thing I’ve watched was Far From The Madding Crowd.  It was a very predictable movie, but I loved the period romance and it was a nice way to unwind one night before bed.

Listening… To Smart Passive Income, The Robcast  and Epic Film Scores on Google Play Music.  The instrumental film scores are fantastic to write to because the music is uplifting, there are no words, and it drowns out the noise of little girls playing ponies beautifully.
Eating… Beef Dip, tacos and quite a bit of soup.  Oh my word I almost forgot to mention my current foodie favorite is Vietnamese salad rolls and these donuts called What am I? from Donut King.  Mmm.

Drinking… Coffee!!! I finally convinced Craig that we need a minimalist coffee maker.  No more plastic pods littering up the place.  So we bought an Aerobie AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker and it makes like the most amazing cup of coffee ever!

Loving… Mental health walks.  When Craig gets home from work (sometimes after dinner sometimes before) I grab a toque and gloves and a hoodie, lace up my boots and plunk my head phones on and head out the door for a walk to recharge and have some solid alone time.  It has been a staple in my day and I cherish the time I have just me and a podcast (and the dog most of the time too).
Hoping… To carry on through the year learning as much as I can.  I am excited about the books I’ve been reading and I have been taking some online courses to expand my education.  It will be interesting to get to December and look back on 2016 as my year of knowledge.

Celebrating… Birthdays galore!  Hudson turned 10 this month and Craig and I are racking our brains to come up with a special adventure birthday present for him… double digits is a milestone.  Craig’s birthday was also in January and we had a pretty spectacular little overnight stay at Sun Peaks.  My father in law and my grandma also have birthdays in January to it was indeed a very celebratory month.

Disliking… A serious lack of sleep!  My subconscious is working triple time in the dream department I swear.  I have been waking up 2-3 times a night by these intense dreams that of course I can’t remember once I’m awake.  Their welcome is definitely over stayed.

Starting… Maybe a better word would be restarting… The whole decluttering process again.  Room by room, tossing and sorting.

Discovering… That I am not really cut out to work in coffee shops.  I can’t help but eavesdrop and that becomes a serious distraction.

Ha! I love that last line. I think my inherent curiosity might cause me problems as a barista too! Sounds like it has been a really great month for you. I love that you get out to walk every evening, that sounds like such a good practice to embrace. x

In case you can’t escape the work-in-coffee-shops thing, headphones and some music might be a useful tool. It’s almost a necessity for me since I love my coffee-shop time.
